The Global Innovators Accelerator aims to promote innovation in Red Cross Red Crescent’s work and create opportunities for entrepreneurial staff and volunteers to develop and showcase ideas which are grounded in the needs of the communities they are working with. Up to 27 individuals are selected from National Societies who will now participate as Global Pioneers for one year. They will function as a network of innovators implementing projects and designing new approaches with the aim of improving humanitarian and development outcomes. The participants will have access to advanced training on innovation, they will be assigned expert coaches and mentors and other supports and they may receive some funding to try new initiatives. The initiative will help International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to surface both great people and great ideas and will contribute to their capacity to move forward, adapt and lead on innovative humanitarian and development initiatives.

Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) is a statutory body constituted through an Act of Parliament and founded by decree of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah in December, 1947. It is represented through out the country, in each of the four provinces, AJK, FATA, Northern Areas and some 85 Districts. The PRCS provides humanitarian services to the most vulnerable, in line with the Fundamental Principles of humanity without any discrimination on the basis of nationality, race, religion, class, color, creed, gender or political opinion. Its core areas of work are Disaster Management, Health and Care and Dissemination of Fundamental Principles and Humanitarian Values.
The PRCS came to the forefront soon after independence, when it provided valuable humanitarian services to millions of refugees entering Pakistan. Since then it has emerged as the leading humanitarian organization in the provision of relief services (First Aid, Ambulance Service, Blood Transfusion Services and arranging food and shelter) to the suffering humanity during wars, conflicts and natural calamities at various points in the nation’s history.
Its extensive relief activities and subsequent participation in rehabilitation and reconstruction in the aftermath of floods, fires, drought, earthquakes and other natural calamities have earned the Society not only respect but accolades from masses as well

Red Cross Red Crescent (RCRC) Movement is an outcome of humanitarian work carried out by a Swiss Merchant, Henry Dunant in 1859 during the war between Austria and France in the city of Solferino in the present day Italy. Henry Dunant’s book A Memory of Solferino published in 1862, containing the details of the War and the miseries of those taking part in it and the assistance to them, was the reason for the formation of the Movement as people across the globe were greatly moved by it.
The RCRC Movement is the largest humanitarian network in the world. It is composed of International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC), International Federation of Red Cross & Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and National Societies. ICRC is an independent and neutral organisation created in 1863 with a mission to protect the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence and to provide them with assistance. ICRC promotes the International Humanitarian Law, a regulation that protects victims of war. ICRC is present in some 80 countries around the globe. The ICRC recognises the National Societies.
IFRC was formed in 1919 in the aftermath of World War 1 as need for close coordination between the Societies was felt. IFRC is an umbrella organisation of the National Societies, with the role to direct and coordinate international assistance of the Movement to the victims of natural disasters. IFRC promotes the activities of the National Societies and also contributes to their capacity building. All the National Societies are auxiliary to their respective government. The national societies provide assistance to the victims of conflicts and disasters and conducts activities in favour of the most vulnerable.
The National Societies cooperates with the ICRC and the International Federation and focuses on rendering health services / social activities. Presently, about 188 countries have their own National Societies.
